D.N. Drilling offers well drilling across South Jersey, including Galloway Township in Atlantic County. At 114.49 square miles of land and water, Galloway is the largest municipality in New Jersey. It had 37,813 residents at the 2020 census. The township sits on the mainland coast, across the bay from Atlantic City. From Leeds Point, it runs almost 10 miles inland to the Pinelands town center of Egg Harbor City. Development is concentrated in the villages of Pomona, Smithville and Oceanville. It also follows Jimmie Leeds Road, the White Horse Pike and parts of Route 9. New Jersey American Water supplies the township's city water. A 2022 state planning report says a limited number of properties have private wells. This page is for those homes, and for the farms and businesses that run their own wells.
A new house on a lot past the water mains needs its first well. The NJDEP well permit comes first, and only a New Jersey licensed well driller can obtain one. On the rig, we run a yield test and measure the flow rate. The well gets casing, drop pipe and a pitless adapter. Then we set the pump and a pressure tank sized by drawdown, and file the well record. Our well pump and pressure tank service covers submersible and jet pumps, plus constant pressure systems. Emergency service runs 24/7. Published national figures put new wells at about fifteen to thirty dollars a foot. Complete wells often land between a few thousand and twelve thousand dollars. Estimates are free, and our crew brings more than ten years of drilling experience.

Galloway's Public Works page names New Jersey American Water as the township's public water company. The utility's territory list covers Galloway Township in part. Its Atlantic County system draws from the Kirkwood-Cohansey water-table aquifer and the deeper Atlantic City 800-foot sand. Land-use rules split the township between Pinelands jurisdiction, 26,807 acres, and coastal CAFRA jurisdiction, 44,670 acres. Galloway is one of 56 South Jersey municipalities inside the Pinelands National Reserve. Township zoning is very restrictive toward new building in the wetlands around the Mullica River. On the bay side, the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge keeps its headquarters at Oceanville. Near the coast, heavy pumping can pull salt water toward fresh wells. The 2022 state report adds that a limited number of residents live outside the sewer service area. Those homes run on private septic systems.
New Jersey's Private Well Testing Act requires buyers and sellers of homes with private wells to test before closing. From 2002 to 2018, 918 Galloway wells were tested under that law. Of the wells sampled, 8.9 percent came in above at least one primary drinking water standard. The rate was 14.3 percent for Atlantic County and 14.5 percent statewide. Gross alpha, the state's stand-in for radium, topped its standard in 5.7 percent of 842 wells. Of the 918 wells, nitrate exceeded in 2.0 percent, volatile organic compounds in 1.5 percent and mercury in 1.3 percent. The U.S. Geological Survey says Kirkwood-Cohansey water is typically acidic and soft. It rates that water highly corrosive. Only a lab test shows where your well stands. With results in hand, we set water treatment sized to the test.
A well that can no longer keep up gets a replacement drilled to a better-producing zone. At the December 2025 drought declaration, NJDEP rated groundwater levels and stream flows in its Coastal South region extremely dry. That region includes Atlantic County. When a replacement goes in, we seal the old well with grout, placed by tremie from the bottom up. The same well abandonment and sealing fits a property that ties into city water and no longer uses its well. We file the decommissioning report with the state when the work is done. Pumps and pressure tanks wear out too. Most submersibles run 10 to 15 years, and a healthy pump starts 6 to 8 times an hour. A tank that loses its air makes the pump cycle too often, which can shorten the motor's life.
Irrigation wells water lawns and crops, and NJDEP counts each one as a Category 2, non-potable well. Township zoning also limits new building on the prime farm soils of the Pinelands. Each irrigation well needs the NJDEP permit before drilling. A farm able to pump 100,000 gallons a day or more also needs an Agricultural Water Usage Certification. That certification comes through the County Agricultural Agent. Below that line, an irrigation well needs the well permit only. Our irrigation well drilling starts with a yield test on the new hole. The 2022 state report also counts 52 noncommunity water systems in Galloway, with 55 wells between them. The EPA's examples of such systems include schools, office buildings, gas stations and campgrounds. Wells for sites like these fall under our commercial well drilling.
